As the first few weeks of school draws to a close, we wanted to share with you how wonderful it feels to have so much activity taking place at the Academy once again! We are so grateful that we have had the ability to transition back to face-to-face academic and athletic programming – the joy that our student athletes bring into the building is palpable.
The Board and leadership team at the NSA continue to stay informed with respect to COVID-19 updates and directives from federal and local officials, as well as medical experts. We will continue to follow their guidance for the 2020-21 academic year, training and competition season. Our Return to School COVID-19 Protocols (see links below) are in place and while our staff will continue to provide gentle reminders about physical distancing, mask wearing and hand hygiene, we’re confident that our student athletes understand their important role in keeping our community safe and that they will keep their sights set on getting on snow as soon as it is possible. Please take a look at the links below for more information regarding our COVID-19 Protocols and about the Academy.
Remote learning for Quad 1 classes were a great success with teachers working with their students online by video and through Google Classroom and Quad 2 classes are underway both in person and online for those students unable to be at the Academy. Our fitness coaches are working with new and returning athletes on their dry land programs and our U16 and FIS coaches check in with their athletes regularly and while we are unable to travel to our Saas-Fee training camp, everyone is happy to be back together in Collingwood and enjoying the fabulous fall weather and participating in local outdoor activities. Be sure to check out our Facebook and Instagram pages for lots of photos. Our Athletic Director has a plan in place to get everyone on snow in western Canada at the beginning of November so be sure to think SNOW!
Our online Graduation was a great success with all our families, alumni and community members logging on to watch the presentation of academic and athletic awards, a special message from Canadian Alpine Ski Team member, Roni Remme (’13) and to celebrate the Class of 2020 who were piped in by our very own math teacher, Mr Raaflaub.
